We are a Portuguese environmental group founded in 2023. We believe the nuclear option should be studied as part of the response to climate change.
Why we exist
In Portugal, the nuclear option deserves a discussion that matches the importance of the subject.
We are not neutral: we believe this technology can help produce low-carbon electricity and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. We also know that any decision requires answers about cost, timescales, safety, water, spent fuel and institutional capacity.
Our work is to make that discussion possible for people who have not studied engineering or energy policy. We explain first, then invite each person to reach their own conclusion.
Answer uncomfortable questions too.
Safety, spent fuel, costs, water and timescales are not footnotes. They are central to the assessment.
Create room for informed disagreement.
We want students, professionals, decision-makers and citizens to be able to discuss this option without slogans or taboos.
Editorial commitment
We are pro-nuclear, and we say so.
Our position is public. Whenever possible, we link to the organisations responsible for the evidence, distinguish observations from estimates and identify what still depends on a political choice.
We do not treat disagreement as ignorance. Someone should be able to use this site to understand the subject even if they still disagree with NVP afterwards.
