Solar, wind, hydro, grids, storage, efficiency and firm generation meet different needs. The useful question is which combination cuts emissions securely, at a controlled cost and with less external dependence.
Arguing that the nuclear option should be studied does not diminish the essential role of renewables. It means keeping another low-carbon technology available while scenarios for Portugal’s electricity system are assessed.
